About CampingZilla – Real Gear, Real Trails, Real Reviews

Our Story: Where British Weather Meets Adventure

One summer evening, deep in the heart of the Lake District, three lifelong friends found themselves gathered around a crackling campfire after a long day of hiking. The stars peeked through a veil of clouds, the air was cool and damp, and the kettle whistled softly on the stove.

Between laughs and steaming mugs of tea, someone asked:

“Why is it so hard to find honest camping gear advice that actually suits the UK weather?”

That question sparked the idea for CampingZilla.com — a place where gear reviews are written not in offices, but in the great outdoors, by people who camp in all conditions — from the Scottish Highlands to the Cornish coast.

We wanted to create a hub where real experience and reliability come first — where rain-soaked mornings, muddy trails, and midges are part of the testing process, not the problem.

The Mission Pack

We packed our mission light but purposeful:

  • Test gear in real UK conditions — rain, mud, and mist included.
  • Tell honest stories — no brand bias, just hard-earned experience.
  • Help campers of all levels — from weekend wanderers to seasoned wild campers — make smarter, more confident purchases.

Too many “gear guides” are written behind desks, not from damp tents or hillside bothies.
At CampingZilla, every tent, stove, and lantern is tested where it truly matters — in the unpredictable, wonderful British outdoors.

The trail so far

From a single campfire idea to one of the UK’s most trusted outdoor gear review sites, CampingZilla has grown thanks to a love for adventure — and a refusal to write reviews we wouldn’t stand behind.

What sets us apart:

  • We sleep in the tents we review — through wind and drizzle.
  • We cook with the stoves we recommend — rain or shine.
  • We hike with the backpacks we suggest — mile after mile.

Our reviews aren’t shaped by algorithms — they’re shaped by mud, tea, and stubborn British grit. If a product can’t survive a soggy weekend in the Scottish Highlands or a windswept night in Snowdonia, it won’t make our list.

How we test Gear

We take every product into the field — across the Peak District, Snowdonia, the Highlands, and beyond.
Each piece of kit is tested in rain, wind, and the occasional patch of sunshine.

Our criteria:

  • Durability: Can it survive a weekend of sideways rain?
  • Ease of use: Can you set it up in the dark after a long hike?
  • Packability: Will it fit in a 65L rucksack?
  • Comfort & Value: Does it deliver warmth, shelter, and reliability for the price?

If it fails in the field, it doesn’t make the cut — no matter how flashy the brand.

“If it can’t handle a soggy weekend in the Lakes, it doesn’t belong on our list.”
